There is often confusion about what exactly an Amma Therapist is. Let me begin with this: you are your own greatest healer. An Amma Therapist’s job is to help facilitate that process to help you go as far you can. Amma is a holistic health modality that has been around for thousands of years and has proven itself time and time again. It is highly revered and those who become lineage carriers are much honored. Many generations before us have entrusted this legacy.
Since Amma Therapy uses bodywork and use acu-points, we are licensed massage therapists in the state of Oregon. We have additional education and certification in Amma Therapy. Our particular approach is a Korean lineage with roots in Chinese medicine. This makes a great blend of both Eastern and Western methods. Not only are we moving Qi (energy) in the body, but we are also considering a person’s current nutrition and lifestyle. Based on that person’s needs, nutrition, lifestyle, herb or supplement recommendations are made.
Short term results can very. Some people may leave a treatment feeling revitalized while others feel a very calming effect. In a nutshell, Amma Therapists are there to help turn on your body’s responses and guide the process towards better health.
Amma Therapy has brought me the capacity to be aware of all aspects of my life: Mind, Body and Spirit. I love being a part of a modality that dives in deep and treats the person as a whole. This is a complete scope of practice that has given me the tools to be authentic and grounded in my practice. The results have been positive changes in both me, my family, my friends and my clients. While Amma may be seen as “just” my chosen career, it is a way of life. I feel extremely honored to be a part of this lineage.

No, you do not need a referral from your MD/DO or primary care provider to visit a chiropractor. In fact, chiropractors are recognized as a type of primary care provider in Oregon. On the other hand, you will typically need a referral for massage therapy if insurance is involved.
A chiropractor can prescribe massage therapy treatments for you. Many clinics such as ours has chiropractic and massage therapy, therefore, you can see the chiropractor and get referred to massage therapy. The benefit of seeing a chiropractor who has massage therapy at the same clinic is that they can work as a team. The chiropractor can let the patient know how many times a week they need to be seen and what areas to work on.
